Reviews 2007... Assembly Halls - Worthing - West Sussex Greer Calvert: 27 - Hi Just been to the Worthing show. Really enjoyed you guys, excellent, Greer. Steve Smith: 27 May - Hi G2, Congrats & thanks for the fabulous show in Worthing last night. It was my 3rd time seeing you and was definitley the best. More people turned up this time, your performances were spot on and the sound was superb too. Great news about the Charterhouse shows, I've just signed up for your mailing list - please let me know how to get tix. I look forward to seeing you there and maybe at The Brook too. Thanks again for all your dedicated hard work in keeping this music alive - it was 2.5 hours of pure heaven. Cheers Steve Smith Roger Marsh: 27 May - Hi I was at the Worthing gig last night (amazing!) Cheers, Roger Jim Lock: 27 May - Hello David, Great show, as ever, last night at Worthing. And good to finally say hello face to face! Ticket bought this morning for Saturday Charterhouse..see you then if not before. All the best, Jim Alan: 27 May - Guys, saw you at Worthing last nite, absolutely awesome. I adore the music of Genesis, and to hear it reproduced so brilliantly is pure heaven. Superb musicians all of you, a fantastic evening. Will be at Charterhouse in November, Cheers Alan (Telling) Darren: 27 May - Hi guys, I saw you for the first time last night at The Assembly Hall, Worthing and thought you were outstanding! On Friday night I spotted one of your posters outside a shop in Worthing, decided to drag some of my family along and was not disappointed. Having seen many other Genesis tribute acts including the Musical Box on lots of other occassions, I can safely say you rate up there as one of the best when it comes to musical attention to detail. Your love of the music is also very apparent when you are performing; a smiling Tony Banks is a rare thing amoungst other tributes! In particular, I thought your rendition of Los Endos was second to none and probably only bettered by the real thing. A very enjoyable night was had by all and I have already bought tickets for the Charterhouse gig. Many thanks again and good luck with future shows, Darren Telling Stephen Leitch: 27 May - Well I don’t really know where to start? WORTHING? CHARTERHOUSE? Its all to much to take in. Only found out about the CHARTERHOUSE gig literally five minutes before leaving for Worthing what a good start to again yet another brilliant evening of superb music performed by a supremely talented group of musicians you guys just seem to get better and better! A big thank you must go out to all your guys that help with the sound and lights I know you said after the gig that you had a few technical hitches before and during the performance but we were sat three rows from the front and the sound quality was superb although the first two numbers were a bit on the loud side. The atmospherics created during suppers ready really enhanced what is for most of us is our favourite GENESIS/ G2 piece of music the lights and dry ice being used to full effect it was almost surreal. Again it was my pleasure to get to talk to you guys after the gig im sorry I didn’t get round to piers but ill catch up with him at CHARTERHOUSE on the Saturday evening. Many thanks hope to see you guys at the brook. Best wishes to all the G2 crew, Steve leitch. Don’t forget to keep those mowing blades sharp for CHARTERHOUSE! Graham Cotterill: 27 May - Hi lads just a note to say how much i enjoyed your gig at worthing last night, first time i,ve seen you play and it certainly wont be my last. will try to get along to see the charterhouse gig on the friday. The gig was very professional and every track was full of emotion and the attention to detail was first class. You guys to be playing at bigger venues. well done lads a super night out. Thanks graham from pagham. Dave Clews: 27 May - Saw the gig last night with all my friends (we were behind the woman who requested 'Ripples'). You were all absolutely brilliant - been playing Genesis all day today at full volume. They were also on last night's 'Seven Ages of Rock' on BBC2 which I recorded (and mentioning 'Suppers Ready' as an iconic all-time, influencing rock track). Anyway, you now have at least 2 new fans (apart from me and my better half) and we've bought tickets for the Charterhouse gig. Can't say enough how brilliant the evening was and how you've put me on cloud nine! Thanks guys. Dave (Clews) Tony Menday: 29 May - On Saturday night you made my 50th Birthday a night to remember and also my wife who is 14 years my junior and before Saturday she had no knowledge of any early Genesis at all is now a fan. A BIG thank you to all the band but for both of us you stood out as the star of the night. I have seen Phil and Chester live on many occasions in years gone by and your performance was up there with them, but being as close as we were to the stage in my eyes you surpassed both. Thank you again and we look forward to hopefully seeing you again in the future. Good Luck for the future Tony Menday Joe Watson: 30 May - G'day! I was at your gig the other day in Woking, it was fantastic and I'm well up for coming to see you again! So yeah, Please keep me updated on G2! Thank you so much! Cheers Joe Graham Riddleston: 31 May - Hi David Just wanted to thank you for a great show on Saturday in Worthing. I've just bought my Charterhouse tickets so looking forward to that. Graham Shaun Case: 4 June - Hi Just got back (well we had a weeks holiday after the gig) home from Worthing. What an awesome concert! I've seen G2 before but at Worthing you were absolutely brilliant. My favourite has to be Suppers Ready. I've still got goosebumps thinking about the way you performed it. The lighting and smoke show were out of this world. Loved the selection of songs that you performed. The section from Wind and Wuthering was top notch. My son doesn't really like that section, even after me harranging him about the wonderful guitar work. However even he now likes that album! My wife was hoping that you'd play 'Thats All' ! My son and I thank you for sparing us that! After your concert how can the Turn It on Tour hope to eclipse that. Hope to see you in the future. Shaun Case Ian Rycraft: 10 June - Hi Guys. Finally got to see you at Worthing a couple of weeks ago after several years of waiting! Very good - although I do have some criticism. You replicate the Genesis sound very well - I thoroughly enjoyed that aspect of things. I'm probably starting to get a bit old but I thought the sound level to be much too high and the quality of sound suffered. The first half of the show was badly distorted and very difficult to understand the words. You must have made some changes at the interval as the second half was much improved. I do know that the Assembly halls are not good acoustically but, even allowing for that, there was scope for much improvement. However, on the whole, I enjoyed the evening - 'Supper's Ready' or 'Domino' - hang on, let me think about that one!! My wife was not so sure as she really doesn't like it too loud but I have persuaded her to come with me to the Charterhouse gig - too good an opportunity to miss. Big improvement in sound quality, please? Thanks for coming down to Worthing. Looking forward to November with high expectations. All the best Ian. Nick Howes: 27 June - Having seen your great band play the Brook, which is a place that gives the punter an ideal opportunity to see bands close up and has great acoustics, Worthing Assembly Room was a great big, empty box, similar to and as unforgiving as Southampton Guildhall. Love of your music was enough for a good evening, but I think your own frustration was borne out by the sound quality. It was also a bit odd with the drums and keyboards out front, but hey, Charterhouse is booked and should be fantastic. The ghosts of the originals will be there(bet they come along incognito to check you out). Nick Howes G2: We felt the performance was a little less than our best for a few reasons... 1. I was suffering from a viral infection and was zoning out into another dimension throughout the evening! :o) 2. We had been toying with the idea of putting the keys and drums front of stage for a while. There are only a few venues we do that have tiered stages (i.e. Worthing), so we said when we came back we would give it a try. Nice idea, bad-Bad-BAD sound!!! It really caused us a lot of timing issues, everyone was loosing it at some point or another. 3. The twin neck I use is an original 1977 Rickenbacker. The sound they produce is very bright/brittle due to the single coil pickups they use, unfortunately they also suck-in every stray electrical signal that flies by. Add a bunch of gain and you can hear all kinds of hums, buzzes and things. Most venues are fine but Worthing was really bad when I switched to Fuzz bass for certain songs (like Lamb/Firth/11th Earl). The interference level was really awful. The fix would have been to have come front of stage but there was no time left for that so I just found the best square yard and made the most of it. 4. We try to ensure that our regular or backup sound engineers can make each show. On this occasion things went astray so we had to make do with the rig engineer. On stage we are always acutely conscious of the importance of keeping our backline low, it affords the sound engineer all the headroom they need to compliment the dynamics of this music and allows them to deliver a powerful sound without overdriving the levels. Unfortunately a large number of live performers do not get this simple concept, so many sound engineers get into a "faders-up" mind-set trying to mix over the backline levels - mad! That is what happened at Worthing until our lighting engineer, who was two levels above the sound engineer in the lighting room, was able to have a chat with him in the interval. ...rest assured the sound at Charterhouse will be perfect. Sorry for the autopsy, the musicians curse I am afraid! Tom Brown: 17 September - I saw you in Worthing this year and have seen you several times in the past. I've also seen Genesis several times in my younger days. You do a terrific job of the songs but I have one request. Would you please turn it down a shade? Please tell your sound engineer that he really need not mic the bass drum so much. You're not playing in a stadium - yet. Think about our poor eardrums. If the bass drum is too loud it makes you play your bass peddles too loud so that they boom. If the volume is too loud we can't enjoy the melody. That's what music is about right - melody. So turn it down a shade please. Good luck for the future. You'll see me there. I'll be the one with the ear protectors and the sound meter. Tom G2: As per our previous response above... For us Worthing was the most trouble fraught show last year and to be honest there always has to be one. We aren't perfect, on some nights we are more perfect than on others. We have worked very hard at this for a long time and as a percentages game we are way ahead - observations, criticism, constructive feedback - call it what you like are always welcome, they keep us considered and guard us from complacency. But equally, sound-bites (comments based on one performance) will never have the weight or resonance to compete with the 8 years of positive feedback listed here on the "Your Views" pages. Charterhouse - Godalming - Surrey Derek & Frances: 03 November - Just a line to say... Attended your gig Friday evening at Charterhouse School, what a fantastic preformance, you guys have really worked hard to perfect the dificuilty that Genesis bought to there music. Have been a Genesis fan since 1971 so have listen to them for a while. So to say that the sound you have created is is just mind blowing. Keep it up. Regards Derek & Frances Cloude. Nick Howes: 04 November - What a cracking good show tonight. It's 0115 and we've just got home. The Main Hall was ideal and the sound was great. Well done on the amount you raised for CHASE. I wasn't sure about the second drums at first but that duet was almost as good as Phil and Chester! Nick Howes. Steve Smith: 04 November - Hi G2, Fabulous show at Charterhouse last night - I think this should be a yearly event? Steve Smith Graham Smith: 04 November - Hi G2, thanks for a fab evening last night at Charterhouse, I was absolutely gob-smacked by how polished your act was (my first time seeing G2), and the quality of organisation of the whole gig was amazing. It was a real priviledge to be there, many thanks again, Graham. Jim Storey: 04 November - Fellas, What a brilliant show on Friday and a perfect setting. I've not seen you before but I will be there again in future. That was the best rendition of Genesis music since I 1st saw them at De Montfort Hall in 1973. Well done to you all. Jim. Mike: 04 November - Please keep me updated on G2 Mike Bryett PS Great show at Charterhouse 2/11/07! Graham Cotterill: 04 November - Just a note to say how much I enjoyed the gig at Chaterhouse on Friday. The whole thing was superb, what a venue for a concert, and what a great performance from you lads, especially Firth of Fifth, and Blood on the rooftops tops. It would be nice to do this all over again one day, thought the sound quality was very good, and you all seemed to be having a good time like the rest of us. I brought along a couple of mates who were seeing you for the first time, and i think they were amazed at just how good you all were. Superb venue, superb music, superb crowd, overall just superb. Will get to see you again soon, already looking forward to it. Graham from Pagham Rosie: 04 November - Just wanted to say what a truly amazing guitarist you are!!! Was my first time at a G2 gig - although I have always heard rave reviews about you all. The gig was the best concert I have EVER attended (and that includes Genesis at Twickers this year!) Hope to see you again very soon, time, distance, finances permitting!!! Regards Rosie McMillan. Stephen Leitch: 04 November - What can I say ive been a fan of GENESIS since my teenage years and as we approach 2008 my fiftieth year I never thought that id get the chance to witness a great band such as your selves perform at this very historic location as I drove into CHARTERHOUSE I was in awe at the sight of the place and as I entered the great hall I stopped and looked in amazement what a fantastic setting! And you guys certainly didn’t let us down with your performance not only musically but with your full use of the lights adding to the effects particulary during the cinema show and of course suppers ready I think Terry must have forgotten that Halloween was last week. I think a big thankyou is in order as the time effort and organisation that must have gone into this very special weekend must have been immense not only by yourselves but also chase and everyone at CHARTERHOUSE not only did we witness a superb evening of music but also you helped raise an incredible amount of money for a very deserving cause. Lets hope this can become an annual event if not the memorys of CHARTERHOUSE will be with us for ever. So once again thankyou for giving us a great opportunity to witness you play in the place it all began forty years ago. Wishing you and the rest of the G2 crew all the best so put your feet up and take a well earned rest and ill see you all again in the new year. Lesley Picken: 04 November - Hi Chris, it's Lesley (alias Gabble Ratchet off the Turn It On Again Genesis forum) I'd just like to confirm in writing what an absolutely fantastic weekend we all had at Charterhouse. It's so difficult to put into words (as words seem so inadequate) what it meant to be there. Thank-you so much for all the hard work and dedication all of you must put in to get the results that you do. Please pass on my thanks to everyone concerned. Both nights were awesome to say the least. The whole atmosphere and spectacle was mindblowing. Not to mention the highlight of having my photo taken with Steve Hackett! I sincerely hope that you continue in future to bring so much pleasure to Genesis fans the world over. I certainly intend to support you all whenever I can. For me there is no music that comes anywhere near close to that of early to mid era Genesis and there is nothing better than to hear it played perfectly, live. The attention to detail, even down to the beat of a cymbal in the correct place, really does make a difference to me and it is because of that detail that puts you all in a different league to other Genesis tributes. I went to see Genesis in Paris and at Twickenham this year, but with all due respect, I have got far more enjoyment out of going to see G2 at the more personal venues such as the Robin2 and the Guildhall, Gloucester. Long may you continue! Kevin Stephens: 05 November - Just a note to say you guys were awesome on Sat. What a setting! And what a privelidge to go round the house in the morning. I sat right at the back upstairs and though didnt win anything did my bit to bid up the auctions-what a great total you all raised. Steve Hackett (and friends) sat nearby and were rocking their heads in time esp thru Suppers Ready. The house tour was great - you seem to have some hardened fans who were on the tour-they consider themselves G2 Groupies!-lovely people. Anyway well done again-it was even better than Hertford and that was fantastic-what a unique experience. Cheers and all the best Kev Tony Pennance: 05 November - Just writing to express my gratitude for a fantastic night of Genesis music last Saturday, both Mel and I had a brilliant night. I've never been to that neck of the woods before and was really impressed by the beauty of the area. I will sit down this week and sift through the 500 I took, the 250 Mel took and the shots from the week before at Stoke. I think we've nailed a few good ones so I will send them down once ready. It was a real ego trip to walk round wearing a T-shirt with my photo on as well ha ha! Best Wishes Tony Pennance. Andy Clews: 05 November - Hi Guys, Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your performance at Charterhouse on November 3rd. Musicianship and production was first class, and what a wonderful setting. You all looked like you were having fun too. Great to see Steve Hackett in the audience - I'm sure he enjoyed it just as much as we did (and full marks to Chris Cawte for doing him justice). Having been a fan of Genesis since 1972, it was great to hear their best music played so faithfully. For three hours I was 18 again... Special compliments to your drummer: I don't think I've heard anyone make drums sing quite like he did. Glad also to know that the event raised so much money for CHASE. Thanks for a great evening and I wish you continued success! Best wishes Andy Clews. Ian Rycraft: 05 November - Hi David What can I say about Friday at Charterhouse - absolutely brilliant! Having now heard what you all are really capable of I'd like to revise my comments about your Worthing show to say that it was bordering on 'rubbish' by comparison! Well done. An excellent gig all round - my wife and I were particularly impressed by the effort made with the lighting to make best use of the windows etc. Huge improvement (over Worthing) sound-wise...just a bloody good show! Can't wait for the DVD. Hope you're going to update us about how well the fund raising went? Once again - Brilliant! Thank you. Regards Ian. John Croxford: 05 November - Thank you to everyone involved for a brilliant night at Charterhouse on Saturday. It was the first time I have seen G2 and what a great venue. I was very impressed with the quality of the musicianship and the overall performance and lighting. Having two drummers certainly gave a very powerful performance. Understand from those who had seen you before that you do not usually have the space for this but if you get the chance again it is well worth repeating. Glad also that so much money was raised for such a good cause. Too much to hope that this could be repeated some time in the future but I would certainly come. Noticed that the whole gig was filmed and if you are intending to add this to your merchandise I will certainly buy a copy. Thank you again and hope to see you at another gig soon. Regards, John Croxford. Trevor Farrow: 05 November - Gentlemen, Thank you for an utterly first class evening. A superb show of near perfect recreation set in a spectacular setting (Hogwarts esque!). Trusting your success and popularity grows as it undoubtedly deserves. I for one look forward to supporting you in future and trust the cameras etc indicate that a very memorable evening might soon be available on CD/DVD. Please make sure you keep 'The Brook' on your show schedule. Trevor Farrow. Dave Clews: 05 November - Hi Chaps, Just wanted to tell all you guys what a great time we all had. Hey, what an atmosphere! I just couldn't believe we were at the core of where it all started for Genesis. As for the hall - I could sense where some of those early influences came from. Just like Hogwarts, it breeded magic! I was also at the Worthing gig earlier this year and suffered the acoustics. I sort of think the problem came about again at Charterhouse though, whether it was my imagination or my knowledge of the songs, it sounded better during the second half. However, don't let that detract from a great evening - especially when we learnt that Steve H was in the audience - and in the same row as me and my brother! Highlights for me were Suppers Ready (as always) and that incredible drum solo! Can't say I've ever heard a better drum sequence than that. Brilliant. Anyway, can't wait to see you guys again next time you're down this way though please not Worthing! Try Crawley Hawth Theatre. Also, really think it would enhance some of the songs if Terry could use a few more costumes - the Grim Reaper costume towards the end of Suppers Ready was brilliant - just brilliant! Keep up the great work - you guys really do keep the music alive for us all! Cheers Dave Clews. Nick Carus: 05 November - Just wanted to once again congratulate you all on an amazing gig. My first time seeing you guys – and certainly not the last! See you in Frome! Regards Nick. Greer Calvert: 05 November - Hi all, What a truly great night at Charterhouse on Saturday! I went home with a big grin on my face as I am sure everyone else did. A heartfelt thanks to you guys in the band, and all the support persons for putting this whole show on...and heck for that matter keeping Genesis music alive, and quite apparently in rather good health indeed, if the fans reaction in the hall was anything to go by! I especially loved the two drummer climax to the show, the run into Los Endos, and the encore - a perfect way to bring it all to a close. But really all the way through was simply great, for instance I had equal enjoyment from the soft passages and accoustic numbers, and it's nice you took the trouble to sing some harmonies - an aspect too often ignored, and a big enhancement to the music. Roll on next year's Charterhouse event? A massive thanks once again, Greer Joe Cleavely: 05 November - hi there!!! just a quick email to say how fantastic you guys were at charterhouse on saturday night. being born in 81 i never got to see the real thing in there prime i see them in 88 92 and this year but really do wish id seen them in the 70's ill never forgive my parents for having me to late ha ha. but you guys showed me what it would of been like to be there at a gig in the 70's and would really like to say thank you again!!! you really must keep going if you can because you are fantastic and you make so many genesis very very happy!! thanks again G2 and genesis for the great music joe in essex p.s i also got steve hacketts autograph just need to track down the other 4 now!!!!!! ha ha! Sue Heather: 05 November - Hi Dave, Just wanted to say a massive thank-you for THE best week-end. It really was a success and so much fun! As always, you guys were amazing - the best I think I've seen you (despite what Piers said!! - told me I'd seen him play better - bless him!). I honestly can say you knocked spots off the 'real thing' in the summer - they had no passion - which you guys have in bucket loads. There were many, many hilights but naturally my beloved CS is up there - with the double drums - heaven! Plus, Eleventh Earl of Mar and the gorgeous Inside and Out - Piers had told me you were doing it - but it surpassed all expectations! Love it! Please keep it in! xxx Thanks again and will hopefully see you before too long - although I think it might be a long winter before I see you all again (poss Powys next Feb) :-( I shall have to take up knitting!! NOT!! Lol!! Take care, Love from one of the 'G2 Ladies' (was thinking of getting pink satin jackets made!!) Lol! Sue xx Scott Edmond: 06 November - Just want to say huge thanks from me and the wife for a great weekend. The shows were spectacular and it was great to see Steve Hackett there having a good time. We also enjoyed the tour of Charterhouse on Sat morning although my head was a bit fuzzy after Friday night. It was me that bought the Genesis book for £100 but it is for an excellent cause. When are you guys going to come to Aberdeen it would be great to see you again. The perfect venue would be The Lemon Tree check out www.lemontree.org Let me know if you are ever going to come to gods country and I will spread the word. I will of course keep checking your web site and will try and come and see you again somewhere. Cheers and thanks again and please pass my thanks to the rest of the Band. Scott & Lori. Martin Burrows: 06 November - Dear Chris, Dave, Jeff, Piers & Terry, I am not sure where to start but my brother and I attended the gig at Charterhouse on Saturday 3rd November. I wanted to pen a few words after what was an incredible night of music which turned out to be an emotional one also. Since discovering Genesis at the tender ages of 13 & 12 respectively (now 43 & 42) the early albums in particular are ‘tattooed’ onto our hearts. That is the best way I can describe it. We of course know every song down to the last note and word. Having had the tickets for what seemed like a lifetime the weekend arrived when we would be setting off from Co. Durham to the place where our favourite band began. The moment the taxi turned into the grounds of Charterhouse we new we were in for a special night. We got there at 7.00pm prompt and the place was already buzzing. After a few pints of a pokey brew called ‘Hogs Back’ we headed into the venue. You could sense the anticipation. By then of course Steve Hackett’s quiet, unassuming presence had filtered around adding a sense of real nostalgia. Then came the start – the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. From that moment we were treated to a musical retrospective of such quality that emotions took over. We loved the fact that the set was broken in to ‘two acts’. This added to the theatrical setting and for most of the first half I was actually overcome with emotion breaking down several times into a flood of tears. The sound and musicianship was exceptional. We met Steve Hackett at the intervaI, shook his hand and told him of a time when we once walked 13 miles back from one of his gigs after missing the last bus – its true. Then having composed ourselves we sat down enjoyed the auction and lapped up another musical rollercoaster before going back to our hotel for a celebration drink and curry. I/we can not wait to see you again and will keep on eye on the website for forthcoming gigs. I have probably rambled on too much but thanks once again for a fantastic night which for us personally you could not put a price on. Hopefully next time we can get a chance to meet you all. Martin & Dean Burrows Co. Durham Graham Cotterill: 06 November - Hi Chris, just a note to say how much we enjoyed the gig on friday, it was fantastic. You all seemed to be enjoying yourselves and the standard of the performance was mega. Hope you can do this venue again one day as it was truly wonderful. Will get to see you all again in Kent on 26th April. Thanks for a really lovely evening, say thanks to the rest of the lads for us. Graham from Pagham. P.S Your playing of Firth of Fifth, was first class, the highlight for me. Thanks. Dave Mac: 06 November - Well after 8th July 07 the boys in G2 had some work to do to live up to the expectation. The gig was always going to be unique as the venue was at Charterhouse, for you Philistines out there this is where it all began in the late 60's when PG,TB, MR and AP were attending this public school. G2 had offered the chance to bid (the whole event was for a very worthwhile charity) for a tour of the place, though I couldn't get the time to take advantage of this, and I guess it will never come again. As the lights dimmed and we waited as a loop from the more esoteric sounds from The Lamb circled around and around the expectation rising all the time, we new something good was happening ("here it comes again"). Then it began, to the opening strains of The Lamb, and not a note was missed in that intro - this boy has been practising hard, impressive Piers! Seeing the whole band on stage it was like seeing some long lost friends, surfacing again like the real boys did in '82 at Six Of The Best, to help PG out of a hole - probably an analogy lost on most. There was a new addition, a second drum kit but with the seat yet to be occupied. Terry dressed in black, and everyone else in white made Bekki wonder if that was how it was supposed to be, part of the rules but there were none I knew of - may be it was to look like Boyzone (except for Chris' shoes)? The cause was obviously one close to Chris' heart and he seemed to be taking the lead in many senses tonight, allowing Dave to relax and (just) play well - infact no body didn't play well this night. Previous gigs have had Jeff supporting the band and giving them what they needed but tonight he shone through, and hit them skins hard - and when he was joined by the mystery man the sound was loud enough to give that buzz in the ears that almost hurts - how I have missed that pain. (The second percussionist was never introduced or explained, sorry if I missed something there guys or perhaps it was a family friends dream? Who ever he was, his augmentation of the sound was not un-welcome). Chris' guitar was (as) always a personal hilite, but as a guitarist it would be, only a touch of nervousness but who wouldn't be with the scrutiny of SH in the audience - I will never get bored of his nylon string in Blood on the Rooftops. As I said above, Dave was able to give the bass needed to hold the rest of the performance together; that is what a group is - there is no 'I' in this team. I don't know who supplied TB's equipment at Twickenham but he should have used Pier's supplier if he wanted true Genesis sound! Terry, what can I tell you, he got stronger as the night went on, a couple of notes missed but held, and great to see him harmonising again. The only idiot that needed shooting tonight was the pissed Harry Hill look-a-like that refused to leave the place; and probably should have been asked to with a bit more authority - while he was in the light he detracted from the performance. The interval, a necessity to maximise the charity contribution with auctions of merchandise never to be seen again, PC drum sticks and book signed by SH (I wonder what PG sent for yesterdays auction?) seemed to provide a new lease of life, both in the band and audience, Bekki was enthused and wanting more or at least looked like she did. She was most impressed that SH was there in the audience, I was too - though I did meet him a few years back so we are almost old friends. And so to measure the night here are the marks out of 10 and set list.
David (Bass) 8.0 Polished and dependable George: 06 November - Hi Guys Saw you at Charterhouse on Saturday 3rd Nov. Great performance guys. Well done. Great choice of venue. All the best George Kerstin Hinkley: 06 November - I haven't seen you guys since the Astoria in 2006 and was missing you loads! Had to make do with the real thing in Paris and Twickenham instead :-) Was looking forward to seeing you at Charterhouse immensely...and I wasn't disappointed. I even enticed some friends from south Wales to come and see you. You were all as fantastic as ever and that wonderful great hall was so atmospheric. Loved the use of lights on those huge windows and the beamed ceiling. Particularly enjoyed Cinema Show and Watcher of the Skies. Nice to hear a few songs that I haven't heard you do before, but missed Ripples. The acoustics of the room could have been a bit kinder but hey, who cares! Great to see Steve Hackett there too. I was lucky enough to win one of the auction bids and will treasure my signed Genesis programme always. l hope you made lots of money for the charity Chase. Good for you. Many thanks for a truly memorable night. Same time next year? All the best Kerstin Hinkley Louise: 07 November - Absolutely brilliant at Charter House – cannot wait for the next one. Wish I could have gone Saturday as well but was sold out. I would have stood at the back again. I was dancing the whole time at the back where your sound man was. Anyway I am now a confirm groupie of G2 ha ha. I was completely lost in the music Friday night. Hopefully you may play Musical box next time, the track that got me hooked in the first place at the age of 12. You are miles better than the Musicial box group by far. I would love the whole of Genesis to come along to one of your gigs, it would be great? I have only been to see you twice now; once at Milton Keynes “shouting out Supper’s ready” and then on Friday at Charterhouse. I cannot wait till next time. I have checked already for new date. See you all hopefully soon. Louise and partner Ed who is slowing but surely loving the music. Graham Riddleston: 08 November - We came on the Saturday night, Top top show, thanks for that. Nearly 3 hours of brilliant playing. I got our bands drummer to come and see you play for the first time, I think he was pretty impressed with the drum duet! And because the place was full the whole show had a great atmosphere. Cheers Graham Kevin Hawkins: 08 November - Hi, Saw you for the third time at Charterhouse on Saturday (previously Crawley and Worthing) and this was the best of the three! Great atmosphere, great music and you all looked like you enjoyed the experience as well! So how will you follow that??? Once again, thanks for a very enjoyable show! Kevin Hawkins Barry Nuthall: 10 November - Great gig . Took me back to when I first saw Genesis (as late as the Duke tour, unfortunatly) at the Lyceum. It's a great night when the shivers go up and down the back and the throat gets tight with the thrill of the music. Hope very much to see you again soon. Barry. Ian Webb: 12 November - David, I was fortunate to attend the Charterhouse gig on Saturday 3rd November (my first time at a G2 gig). As a forty-something Genesis fan, it was excellent to hear all of the old Genesis tracks played again so well. I very much enjoyed the concert and I am looking forward to seeing you guys again in the New Year. As the Charterhouse gig was so successful, are there any plans to play there again next year. I hope so. The atmosphere there was fantastic. Keep up the good work. Best Regards Ian Webb. Philip Horler: 12 November - To all of you in G2. Thank you all for a great night on Saturday 3rd November. I was nursing a stinking cold having run The Venice Marathon the Sunday before but I managed to stifle my coughs and sneezes during the quiet bits. It was really nice to hear "For Absent Friends" again after so many years. I had never heard Inside and Out live. There is so much really good stuff in the Genesis catalogue. We saw the real thing at Twickenham in the summer. They might have more lights but I am more "moved" by you guys than I was by them. Take care and I will see you again sometime. Regards Philip Horler. Karen Lane: 12 November - Hi David, Just a brilliant experience - once again Neil and I thoroughly enjoyed the concert and the drum solo was just amazing - reminicent of the one I saw with Chester and Phil some years ago!! Glad you collected so much for the charity. Look forward to the next concert - I will keep looking for updated gig info. Best wishes Karen Heather Richards: 12 November - WOW! What a night! I always love seeing you play, but to go 'home' to Surrey was particularly special. Thank you so much to all of you involved in creating such a fabulous show. I love the photo on the Charterhouse website, which is now gracing my desktop (a little grainy, but it still reminds me of the great time I had every time I switch on my computer.) I can't wait to own a copy of the DVD. I was very pleased to hear that there are more gigs planned than currently show on the website. I like to know when my next G2 fix will be! Until the next time - keep up the good work. Hebsy. Martin: 17 November - Hi just a quick line to once again thank u for a fantastic night, I travelled from Rotherham down to see you at charterhouse on the Friday, the venue and the band were superb the music just seems to get better sound quality just amazing! I try to watch you 2 or 3 times each year and it never fails to impress. Well done u deserve 4 k crowds it’s a strange world. Thanx Martin Bullock. Steve Hammond: 27 November - I just wanted you all to know how much the whole experience meant to me (and so many of the people I spoke with). It was so warm, emotional, positive and great fun. The setting is magical and I imagined that I was watching an early, intimate Genesis gig. I could only attend on Friday but had the bonus of the school tour the next morning and I was so happy as I travelled back home. The bonus, of course, was the fantastic amount of money that was raised. Well done to everyone who contributed to the organisation, which must have been a huge task. I look forward to seeing G2 again a few times next year and will sign up for tickets like a shot if you could recreate the magic of Charterhouse again! Best wishes, Steve Julian Berkeley: 30 December - Well, I've got around to it at last! Took a while to come down off that high you guys took me to on Saturday at Charterhouse. I managed to drag my wife, Jan, to her first gig since the Camel farewell tour. The last time I'd entered G2-land was the night the DVD was recorded at Camberley - incidentally the first gig my youngest son, James, ever attended; now he's a seasoned veteran of many gigs including Reading 2007 and has recorded his own first CD - amazing what music can do! Anyway, what a total and utter treat that Saturday was: the setting was perfection, coming full circle so to speak. The set was totally awesome and each of you, in your own way, produced a wonderful performance. Somehow the rightness of the place, the enthusiasm of the crowd (dare I say congregation?), the charitable purpose, the presence of greatness in Steve - all these combined to draw a magnificent evening of music, nostalgia and joy together. Time and again I reached emotional highs with the brilliance of G2's renditions of Genesis classics, from 'Watcher' to 'Afterglow', from 'Supper's Ready' to the incredible drum duel of 'Volcano'. Memorable is a word that is often thrown in on occasions such as this, but fellas, this was truly special and truly an evening to remember, going straight into my Top 5 of gigs experienced (and in my forties I've now seen one or two!). So thank you; thank you all for putting together a perfect evening for all of us who went away humming happily after a wonderfully long and satisfying evening! Julian Genesis Convention - The Ferry - Glasgow Sue Heather: 27 August - Thanks for two amazing nights guys, two very different sets, both immaculately executed. Loved Blood Suite, Hairlessheart, Ripples, Entangled, Horizons, Moonlit Knight, Supper's Ready, Deep in the Motherload... ...I could go on! Oh, and not to forget a double helping of Cinema Show - stunning, hairs standing on end stuff - the trip to Glasgow was worth it just for that! The musicianship is mindblowing - fast and furious, slow and passionate - I very often find myself stood there, eyes closed, lost in 'the zone' - no other band does that (apart from the real thing - sometimes!!). I get the biggest thrill though from seeing you guys in 'the zone' too - not necessarily at the same time as me!! That passion can't be rehearsed - it's in your blood. That's what these guys and the music of Genesis do. A truly magical combination! Thank-you - especially Piers! :-) Cheers!!! ;-) Take care, Sue (Chocolate Surprise) x. Steven Scott: 29 August - Saw you in the Moses Gate a few years ago. Just wanted to say thanks again for two great sets in Glasgow. We had a great weekend. In spite of ITC playing most of the old favourites on Sunday, I thought your "alternative set" was magnificent. I especially enjoyed Moonlight Knight and The Knife, which no one else played. Will keep looking out for your trips "up north" on your web-site. Thanks Angela and Steve Scott. Andrea Corr: 29 August - Guys, you were fabulous ! What more can I say? Two brilliant performances in two nights. As I am fortunate enough to live 20 minutes away from Charterhouse I will be coming to see you both nights then too. Roll on November. All the very best Andrea Corr. George Dickson: 31 August - Guys, I’ve just got to say that your performances in Glasgow at the weekend were absolutely sublime. Keep the memory alive and I look forward to your next trip north. George, from Edinburgh. Gloucester Guildhall - Gloucester Andy Griffiths: 14 October - Saw you guys at Gloucester Guildhall On Saturday. All I can say is...Awesome!!! Shame you didn't play Entangled. Big ups guys. Andy Griffiths. Robert Broad: 16 October - Just to say how much we enjoyed the gig at Gloucester guildhall on Saturday 13 Oct really great night. Regards Robert. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Phil Skidmore: 25 September - Saw you last week in Las Palmas. You were fantastic. Very tight, very professional, great musicianship from all of you and with eyes close you could have been the band circa 1974/5. Loved the care which you all obviously put into it. If you are appearing anywhere in London I will be going and taking my friends along. Keep it up boys, a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Phil. David Dodds: 28 September - Just thought I'd let you know that we did get to your 1st night in Las Palmas and thought you did a great show (that was the night that the keyboard player bollocked up a track, he he) anyway looking forward to seeing you again, maybe South Shields next summer. Regards Dave Dodds. Milton Keynes Theatre - Milton Keynes M & J: 08 October - Hi to all at G2! Just to let you know, we attended last nights show at Milton Keynes, absolutely Brill as per usual, well worth the travel from Upminster in Essex. This is our third time we have seen you (before at Brentwood and Southend), and you get better and better, particular mention for your drummer who not only was one of the very best I have ever heard, (if not THE best) but you have even got him getting the drinks in at the Interval! Splendid! Thats it keep it up, and remember you can never retire! Genesis must be proud of you!! Regards and best wishes, Martyn and Janet Hagger Rick Spratt: 08 October - Hi Guys, Just to say thanks again for a great evening at Milton Keynes. Good performance as usual,I think the crowd realy enjoyed it. We look forward to seeing you at Charterhouse. Thanks again Rick Spratt (and Harry) Alan Kilby: 08 October - Hey Guys, Just wanted to say - great show at the MK Theatre Sunday night. You folks certainly work hard and really deliver on all fronts! It was really good to hear so many old favourites played so well - and the finale from Cinema Show really was spot on - your drummer really is a great engine room! He must have been knackered! Thanks guys and make sure you come back to MK. Alan Duncan Gray: 09 October - Hi guys. Brilliant – superb!! Your gig at MK Theatre on Sunday. Several times I was in complete rapture. It was just awesome. Many, many thanks. Superb musicianship. Great vocals and ‘repartee’. Not sure what to single out as it was all fantastic – lighting, sound quality, the whole package. Best tracks for me were Cinema Show (great track to end on), the beautiful Entangled (had me in tears), Blood on the Rooftops, and the crescendo ending of Suppers Ready. It reminded me of how much I like the post Gabriel, ‘pre Hackett exit’ period. Couldn’t help watching Piers (I’m a keyboard player myself) – amazing authenticity. Must take him hours to not only perfect the exact sounds but, of course, the playing. Believe me, Piers, they are worth it (still using the Roland Uxxxx sound module?). Pure joy. And then Jeff on drums – incredible. I normally hate drums or just tolerate them as a necessary evil but this was fantastic. I was even looking forward to seeing a drum solo! My girlfriend, who has never seen Genesis or knew much about them, was really impressed. She particularly liked the vocal harmonies. Long may you continue playing. You made a relatively old man (saw Genesis first at Coventry Polytechnic in 1972) very happy!! Cheers Duncan Nigel Murphy: 10 October - Hi, We attended the MK show on Sunday. Absolutely wonderful. Another excellent evening to remember. Please keep it coming. All the best, Marion and Nigel Murphy Matt Binnie: 11 October - Guys, we came to Milton Keynes the other night, I wont single anyone out for special praise it would be unfair, you were all very good, enjoyed the concert immensely. But I will pass praise on you all as follows... Vocalist sounded like a mix of later Gabriel (his good sounding solo stuff) and early Collins (his best period by far), so a good sound came from his lungs, best of both worlds. I was never keen on Gabriels recorded version of The Lamb, I thought Collins both on Seconds Out and live during that period was much better, then he spoilt it by going solo and changing his voice. Havent been to the latest Genesis gigs so no idea what he sounds like now, if it's that dreadful nasal sound of Can't Dance, he can't sing either, certainly wouldnt pay 80 quid to find out. Drummer - brilliant, not much more one can say really, hammered the skins with great accuracy and feeling. Keyboards, we once heard Banks do that intro, but we knew he had bottled it since then so thumbs up for a good go at it, did I notice a couple of dropped notes or was I mistaken, could well be the latter as the old ears arent what they were, but whatever, still a Hell of a lot better than me (or Banks?) and full marks for going for it, much appreciated, some things sound better live, sometimes a mistake improves it anyway, at least you know its live and not taped. Guitarists (both) - brilliant, loved the way they did all the immitations between themselves, rather than doing just one of the guys from the original and sticking with that. Thought I heard a couple of dropped notes in there as well, but as I say imperfection makes perfection. ...in conclusion then, if Banks can make a mistake then I'm sure you guys should be forgiven, oh yeah and you did well to learn Suppers Ready in 20mins :-) (yeah right!!) Once again thanks for a good evening, we even bought a CD. Anyway as I say guys thanks for re-kindling a great period musically in my life. Matt Binnie David Morgan: 11 October - Dear G2, another great show in Milton Keynes – thanks – travelled from Oxford to see you all and it was well worth it. The light and sound in the MK Theatre was superb, not to mention the music. Look forward to catching you closer to home – any chance of coming back to High Wycombe or a venue in Oxford? Thanks again, keep going, Dave Morgan Geoff & Jackie: 11 October - My wife and I attended your gig at m/keynes and as we had only seen one tribute band before wondered what to expect. Our fears were laid to rest very quickly indeed and the set simply blew us away. We have seen the pucker Genesis quite a few times over the years but you have to sit through the we cant dance/ no son of mine type stuff mixed with the classics but on your set every song was a winner! We were at the Genesis Twickers gig in july but I have to say the set and show you put on over all surpassed even the great Phil/Peter and the boys. Keep it going and hope to see you if you tour next year. Regards Geoff & Jackie Pratt Eamonn Flanagan: 12 October - MK Theatre last weekend was just so so good... The crowd were not up to much. I tried whistling and shouting at the end of each track but they thought I was just a lunatic from a home or something. I thought Robbery A & B was excellent... and Supper's Ready was as good as I have heard it done by anybody... and I heard it sung by Gabriel (MKBowl) AND Collins (Leeds) within a week of eachother in Ocober 1982!!! Rooftops is always a treat when you do it... it is never a fav on the album but live it is excellent. Thanks Can't bloody wait for Charterhouse on 3rd. Eamonn Louise: 15 October - Hi G2, your concert at Milton Keynes on the 7th Oct, I thought you were great and loved every minute. You may remember I was the lady in the 2nd row who shouted out and asked for “supper’s ready” for which you replied that you would try to practice the song in the 20 minute interval. I have followed Genesis from the age of 12 but never got to see them live with Peter Gabriel. I have seen videos and clips however and do love their music at that time. Since Phil Collins joined the band, I have seen then every time that they went on tour including when they got back together this year. At 12 years old, (not telling you how old I am now, I listen to the radio very late one night and heard my first Genesis track – Musical Box. I absolutely loved it and asked my older brother had he heard of Genesis and the track that I had heard that night. He had the album and from that day I have followed their music. Two years ago I went to see a tribute band called the The Musical Box (Canadian band) who you may or may not have seen. I do have tickets to see them again next week, however I was not aware of any other Genesis tribute bands until I did a search on Yahoo at the end of September and saw your website (great website by the way!) I booked the tickets straight away for Milton Keynes, and travelled from Rainham to see you and was very pleased that I did. Consequently I now have booked tickets for your Charterhouse concert on the 2nd of November and very much looking forward to seeing you all again. Unfortunately you probably won’t hear me this time, one because I am a bit on the short side and as my time keeping is not good so I will probably end up at the back of the hall as there are no book able seats? I bought your T-Shirt and DVD however I hope you will be bringing out a more up to date one soon. My husband is slowly, but surely becoming a Genesis fan as we have only been together for 5 years and he cannot escape my love of their music and is slowly but surely getting to know the tracks. I want to say a big thank you for keeping the songs alive. Looking to seeing you on the 2nd; but in case you don’t hear me this time I will still be enjoying it just as much. Many thanks Louise x. Robin 2 - Bilston - West Midlands Alain Owen: 4 June - Thanks for a great night on Saturday, the whole evening’s set was fantastic but of course Suppers Ready made me think ‘wow’. Volcano/Los Endos had to be the best part, what a great end. Cheers Alain Owen Lucy-Anne Wartnaby: 4 June - Hello... Wow that gig certainly came round very quickly since we last communicated! Thanks for a tremendous time on Saturday night! You guys never fail to deliver. Although it was a very long night - the clan eventually arrived back in Buckhurst Hill at around 3.30am...(yawn) it was all worth it. But next time, we're staying over like we did at Cannock! Can’t wait for Charter House in November! Take care, Lucy-Anne Paul Reeves: 5 June - Hi Dave No worries as to the briefness of our chat of Saturday evening I was going to put another message into you saying how good the show was but the performances just get better . As you know I have only known of G2 for about 3 to 4 years but the sound , lighting and all round effort put in at the Robin on Saturday was in my view one of the best I`ve seen. I will be going to other gigs this year certainly Charterhouse and Milton Keynes, keep taking the medication it seems to be working. Rgds Paul Reeves Roger Taylor: 5 June - Just wanted to tell you that having seen you several times here now i think saturday was probably one of your best despite the illnesses! managed to bring two g2 converts with me (and then there were three!!!) will try to spread the word, thanks for 2 hours of musical joy. Roger Taylor Nigel Espley: 6 June - Hi, Just to add to the general plaudits now appearing on your website following Saturday's gig at the Robin in Bilston: I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the almost 2½hrs set - well done to everyone for such a great show, despite the ailments. That you pulled off such a splendid show of that length demonstrates your dedication to the music of Genesis and to your growing fan-base. So thanks for ensuring that the show must go on and providing us all with a most enjoyable evening's entertainment - marvellous! Oh, and it is also nice to attend a gig where the band speak to the audience more than to just briefly introduce the next song and maybe the next gig. I took the opportunity at the gig to purchase the 'Double Live' CD and must say that, despite the consistently high quality of the sound and general authenticity of the pieces, I found the vocals (ironically) seemed better on Saturday at the Robin. To me, the vocals recorded in Camberley seem strained and nasal, whereas on Saturday, with only the backing support of an enthusiastic audience ( :o) ) they sounded far more natural, relaxed and easier on the ear. Was Terry under the weather whilst doing the Camberley gig? Whatever, he sounded great on Saturday night. Indeed, as did you all, with our without your voices! My congratulations to the sound and lighting chaps. I was disappointed that my camera equipment isn't high enough in spec to capture those great greens and blues (which get washed out due to the low light conditions), but it's fantastic to see a decent light show at the Robin. For the sound guys an extra word of praise: the balance was just about spot on such that the vocals were clear and all instruments distinct and none dominating. But best of all - the volume was just what it should be: powerful enough to appreciate, but not deafening and causing distortion from tortured speakers. A fine job all round. I look forward to your next visit to the Robin venue. Regards, Nigel Espley G2: Can't recall if Terry was suffering for the Camberley date but he would have certainly been more nervous, as we all would have been because it was recorded totally live, so we had to get it as right as possible. The same evening was also videoed and went on to become the live DVD, so no pressure! :o) The Brook - Portswood - Southampton (10th Mar & 5th Oct) Stephen Leitch: 11 March - To all members of the G2 crew it has given me great pleasure over the last week or so helping you guys to promote last nights gig at the brook, the ultimate pleasure was not only seeing and hearing you guys but talking and listening to other people who attended the gig many of whom hadnt seen you before. you gained many new fans the main feedback was many of them commented me on the superb proffesional quality of your performance not only musically but technically the lighting effects and quality of sound adding to what was a really special evening for all lovers of GENESIS music. I personally enjoyed the sequence from the lamb especially in the cage but as ever suppers ready sounded brilliant. In all another great performance from a totally underestimated band i hope now youve found yourselves a manager you can go onwards and upwards. To round off the evening it was great to enjoy a drink and a chat at the bar with piers terry and dave (did chris and jeff have to do all the work!) only joking hope you all had a safe journey home see you all at worthing. Thanks for a great evening its been a long long time hasnt! PS could you let me know about this very special gig your planning id love to be there. All the best to every one connected to G2 thanks for all your hard work, Steve Leitch. Steve Richardson: 11 March - Travelled down once again to the Brook to see the great, Genesis tribute band G2 perform the real fans favorite Genesis classics. Having now lost count on how many times i have seen the band i didn't think they could get any better, than the last time i saw them. But each time they prove me wrong, and last night was no exception. Performing such classics as cinema show, the lamb, los endos, and firth, to name a few the set lasted for an astonishing two hours and 45 Min's. Due to I'm sure, a unplanned superb Suppers Ready performance lasting the full 22mins. Only a few months before Terry had announced at the same venue they were reluctantly not going to perform the classic to have more time to perform other greats. But the pressure from the fans requesting the song was just to much, and the guys kindly obliged thanks guys. I'm sure guys this is going to happen time and time again, and while i understand you reasons behind the decision you may have to have a rethink as many fans like myself believe it to be the Greatest prog song of all time. I'm sure the Band love playing this Venue as it aways attracts a most knowledgeable and appreciative audience. Untill the next time cheers. Steve Richardson Guy Hindle: 11 March - Well! Thank you very bloody much! Your performance at The Brook in Southampton on Saturday night was thrilling! Me and a couple of mates were simply in awe of the event. When I mentioned about the gig to my mate Pete, he was initially a little ... concerned - he's very precious about "his" early Genesis. However, after seeing you play live and considering that you played most of his favourites (including Blood on the rooftops - yes, he WAS the bloke who cheered after Chris had played just one (!!) note of the song) he was completely converted. We look forward to seeing you guys in Southampton again, and maybe a few other venues - how close do you play to Peterborough or Birmingham? RESPECT and thanks for a truly excellent performance. Regards Guy. Nick Howes: 12 March - Good morning. I was at the Brook the other night for your stunning show. I last saw Genesis at Wembley Stadium on the Invisible Touch tour and the highlight, as always was the medley of older material. Your show was like a nearly 3 hour medley! It took me back just going to a gig that felt like the band wanted to be on stage - most bands we see these days do about an album, then leave. I always thought that it would be difficult for anybody to reproduce the kind of sound that Genesis managed, but you appear to have cracked it! Well done and we'll pass the message. Nick Howes Jackie Hallowes: 12 March - Dear David, Richard and I came to see you at the Brook in Southampton on Saturday 10th and it was as ever fantastic!!!! What a brill venue! Had a very nice ambiance and was rockin on the night!!! As I said the show was brilliant as ever with the dedication and humour of the band making it a fab night...and to go on till 12!!! Did you mean to?? I believe everyone would have been perfectly happy to listen to you all night! There were some real youngsters there too, I asked them if they knew the music which they all did and I even caught them singing the words! How good is that??? My very best wishes to you all Jackie :) Heather Richards: 12 March - Hi Guys I want thank you all so much for such a fantastic night at The Brook. It is always such a pleasure to watch you all play - nothing can beat LIVE music! I can't wait to see you all again (tickets booked for Worthing and I just might have to go to Derby too), I'm getting withdrawl symtoms already, so I'm writing this whilst watching the DVD!! If there's anything I can do to keep the monster going - just say the word. Keep up the good work and thanks again Hebsy Rick Spratt: 12 March - Hi Guys. I have to e mail you yet again to say thanks for another fantastic evening. Possibly the best yet (and I`ve seen a few now). We sat there with smiles on our faces for nearly three hours. It was great to see you again and have a drink with you after. Just in case you are conducting a poll suppers ready is still the best followed by watcher of the sky, cinema show and firth. Harry and I traveled down from Aylesbury and are already planning several more trips. Harry is 14 now and a real convert. many thanks again. Rick and Harry Spratt Steve Hooper: 13 March - Dave, well, I made the trek from Slough to Southampton, and it was certainly worth it ! Had a brilliant time - looked as though you guys were enjoying yourselves too. A special word of mention for your stick man - what a hero. I'll definitely be along to a few more this year, and will drag some mates with me. We know all the words, so be warned! Cheers, Steve Kevin Barrow: 14 March - Dear all I travelled all the way from SE Essex to see your Southampton show, but I’m so pleased I did! As a ‘dabbling’ musician (keys/guitar) I know only too well how tantalisingly difficult Genesis’ music is to play. You can’t lapse into autopilot (unlike with most music) or you will be severely caught out! Trying it live is unimaginable to me! Having entered this world only in 1972 and therefore catching my favourite era (1972-1976) rather late on, experiencing my first ‘Genesis’ concert was amazing. Listening to the albums now (in fact the only music I never tire of: have listened to Nursey Cryme hundred’s of times!) has an added something, courtesy of your gig... I will keep checking the website to see if you are venturing South again (London or Essex), but please keep up the good work in spreading the gospel of superlative music! I hope you go from strength to strength. Best regards, Kevin Barrow. Kim Tipple: 16 March - Hi David, Just to say that the show last week at southampton was superb! You guys seem to get better each time, and i thought the set of songs worked really well. Without doubt an absolute snip at 10quid, i would gladly pay 4 times that to see the strongest genesis era so wonderfully performed. Thanks again... Kim Nigel Simpson: 06 October - Once again, thank you so much to the whole band for playing at the Brook tonight (5th) and treating us to your wonderful performance. It is an utter joy to watch and listen to you all, and to witness the obvious delight with which you interact with each other on stage. I think you are very lucky to have found each other, and we too are fortunate that you have done so. It is probably hard work and time consuming to maintain the standard of your output, but is very much appreciated. The collective sentiment of my friends and I who travel to watch you is always that we would contribute a greater amount to the ticket price than that currently asked. In short, we would gladly pay more if it would ease the band's finances and enable you to continue performing to the standard that you do. Anyway, thank you again. Cheers, Nigel Simpson. Stephen Leitch: 06 October - Again another superb performance it was great to meet you guys again and to share a few laughs before and after the gig. Last nights gig was the best yet at the brook and I think the biggest attendance! Really enjoyed the way that you changed the set around and as normal you didn’t let any one down by not playing suppers ready despite Terry telling me only an hour before that you wernt going to play it! Hope you guys had a safe journey home and could you forward this message to all of the G2 crew as a personel message of thanks for a great night out good luck for Milton Keynes, best wishes STEVE LEITCH, see you all at Charterhouse. Jeremy Browne: 06 October - Hi G2 I was at the Brook at Southampton last night, It was the first time I have seen you and what a treat it was! Keep up the good work and hope to see you again in the future. Keep it up Jeremy Browne Leslie Jones: 07 October - Hi Guys. Just a quick note to say how much we enjoyed the performance at The Brook on Friday night. This is the second time we have seen you there and both times you have delivered. It's great to be able to experience the Gabriel/Hackett era Genesis live. I'm not a musician but I can appreciate how complex and layered the music is. You really do a good job of bringing it to life. All the best for the Charterhouse gigs - it's a shame we can't make it, but we'll catch up with you again in the near future. Regards Les & Nicky Jones Trevor: 07 October - Gentlemen, many Thanks for the show (Fri 5 Oct @ The Brook, Southampton). I do not consider myself an officiando of Genesis as I only own 'Trick' & 'Seconds Out', but their (Genesis's) music has always somehow spell bound me. Even the tracks I did not know were enjoyable and absorbing. All can say is a massive congrats for a superb performance, professional, accurate, honest. On the strength of that performance I look forward to an especial night @ Charterhouse, (great cause) on the Friday night. Yours, Trevor Farrow Richard Mogg: 13 November - Dear G2 Chaps, I just wanted to say how much my girl and I enjoyed your show at the The Brook, the last time I saw you was in Salisbury a couple years back at least and I was very impressed then, but the Brook was a definate move forward. I actually chatted with Terry at the Salisbury City Hall bar before the show and he asked what I hoped they would play, me completely unaware of him being the lead singer, I think I said Suppers Ready, Firth etc, anyway he and the band did not let me down. Regards, Richard Mogg. The Flowerpot - Derby Clive Needham: 13 May - Guys, Just wanted to say that i had a fantastic evening at the Flowerpot, you were all absolutely awesome!!!! As someone who prefers the earlier Genesis music your set was just perfect and two and half hours non-stop, Wow! A very big well done and thankyou! I look forward to seeing you again. Regards Clive Steve Braker: 13 May - Thanks for a brilliant night last night at the Flower Pot in Derby. The music i have not listened to for a while has made me dig out the old vinyls today. I will certainly be mentioning your name to others and i will becoming to see you at an event again. Good luck for the future and in keeping this music we all love, alive. Steve in Derby Peter Ross: 14 May - £8????? I would have paid £80 for that! Think you guys should be headlining at Twickenham and Old Trafford. Peter R Angie Coope: 14 May - hi david, fantastic night at the flowerpot - great to see the band close up. we did not think we were going to make it because at 8.45pm we were still 30 miles away filming a wedding. breaking the sound barrier in the mondeo meant we only missed the first 20 minutes. both me and my husband, gary, agree that we would rather see G2 than the real genesis - you really are that good!! love & hugs, angie xxx Steve: 18 May - Hi Folks, just a quick email to say thank you very much for another excellent gig last Saturday. We travelled up from Hampshire to join our daughter & boyfriend at the gig. Our first visit to the Flowerpot, we were a little surprised at the size of the venue, especially the stage. But we all really enjoyed the show, 2.5 hours of first class Genesis music. WELL DONE. Best wishes, Steve & Helen Paul Reeves: 21 May - Yet again yourself and the lads gave an excellent performance on a quite small stage . As you`ve probably guessed I live in Birmingham and the journey was well worth it. The change in running order of tracks was different , keep up the good work see you in the Bilston gig. Regards Paul Reeves Damon Hodder: 27 may - Hi chris..thought your show in derby..flowerpot was great..thanks for the autograph..we came down from sheffield..are there any plans to do some dates in sheffield or close.. many thanks ..Damo Victoria Hall - Stoke-on-Trent Pip: 29 October - Went to the gig at the Victoria Halls last night, it was excellent, I wish I'd discovered G2 years ago! A great night thanks and well done, Pip. Avril Clowes: 31 October - Thanks for coming to Stoke on Trent. I have never been to see a tribute band before and wasn't sure if I would enjoy it but it was a fantastic evening. Your recreation of the Genesis sound was amazing and you played loads of my favourite tracks. Thanks for keeping this music alive. Yours, Avril. Geoff: 17 November - Hello Guys, at 48 I am one of the many fans who experienced and lived the Gabriel era and frankly prefer it to the commercial slop pushed out in later years after trick and lamb ie Duke, All stations, abacab et-al (purely personal opinion). Even Collins admits the music needed to capture more girls and less lads with the trenchcoats and so began the path to commercialism leaving behind the mythical stuff that we all knew Genesis for. Speaking on the night to a friend of similar persuasion both of us approached the concert curious because you had good write ups and YouTube clips but still fearing the worst, this was no reflection on what we expected from you as musicians but I for one am stuck in a time warp of valved Hammonds and Mellotrons, Crumar stringmans, Fender Rhodes etc etc however I know that no one tours anymore with tonewheel hammonds or mellotrons (a roadies nightmare) and even back in the Floyd, Yes, Genesis era only these big bands could afford to buy these temperamental items and drag them around including buying the back up mellotron in case the main one played up on the night. I guess what I am saying is that with no real mellotrons or Hammonds around, the prospect of sounds from digital Hammond clones, Oberheims, Roland with vintage expansions and Mellotron samples did not excite me and I expected pale versions of the original instruments!! How damm wrong and short sighted can you be. You were simply brilliant and that from someone who knows every word and sang along with you from the upper circle. The acoustic guitars were superb as was the keyboards, electric guitars and vocals. The opening mellotron piece Watcher of the skies made me go cold with pleasure, being a keys fan the "firth of fifth" did you proud what a damm difficult piece to play. Tribute bands can attrract cynical comments and sometimes are the butt of jokes, to call G2 tribute is an insult, guys like you with musical talent and bloody hard practice work are in a class of your own. All in all bands like yourselves, Australian Pink Floyd, Think Floyd, Musical Box keep dreams alive and without you all we would have is ancient video footage and the old albums to remind us of it once was all about and no live performances because the original bands are too tired or dissinterested to play on or maybe too old. The lighting was excellent as was the sound quality no distortion to my ears just pure music. So thank you for a brilliant night I was genuinley so touched by your skills that I sat there fighting back the tears of joy and I am serious here, I wont hesitate to travel around out of my area to see you again, I have not had so much pleasure for a very long time, good health and god bless you all, you deserve to go from strength to strength and long may you rock. Geoff B. Bits'n'Bobs Mike: 18 May - When is G2 coming to America? You guys are awesome!!!!!!! Mike Soltoski Steve Fitton: 30 May - Hi David, It's great to see you guys doing so much this year. After last years draught it is so good to see you doing a lot more. We saw you at the Brook earlier this year and I brought my wife for the first time and another newbie to G2.. both were blown away. For me the hard part is persuading the wife to let me see you at the Brook again as well as Charterhouse.. (As I've spent out on tickets for Genesis at Twickers) She seems to think I've gone a bit Genesis crazy this year....I say you can't have too much of a good thing. I really wish you all the best for this year as you are all so talented. Steve Witheld: 30 May - Bloody ironic that G2 are doing their first Scottish shows in August but for God’s sake, why on earth are a Premiership outfit like G2 supporting a bunch of League One lightweights like Face Value? Everybody knows you blew Re-Genesis off stage last May! Tony Joyce: 07 September - Greeting from the states or as Phil may, Hallo. I never came across your site until now. Listening to the samples I almost thought you guys were using the "real" songs and just dubbing some vocals over them, that's how good they sound. Anywho, I can probably guess that you guys do not have the resources to be able to come to the east coast of the US for a few nights here and there huh? Man I would love to see and hear you guys live. When I can afford it I plan on purchasing the CD/DVD combo. I used to fart around in my teenage years with drums and vocals and always fantasized about being in a Genesis or Yes tribute band. I like the fact that you gents play stuff all the way up to "And Then There Were Three". Well thanks for your time and keep turning it on. A Henchinski in New Jersey. Clive Roberts: 04 October - I have written before but yonks ago. Really looking forward to the show in Milton Keynes on Sunday, been to a few previous at Nottingham, Crewe, Guildford, High Wycombe, Northampton, Peterborough, so I know I’m in for a great experience (probably better than Twickenham?!). Taking a couple of "G2 virgins" along on Sunday, they’re not familiar with any of the material you play (except Ripples, which they love, so fingers crossed it’s on your set list!) but I’ve ensured them they’re in for a treat. |
